Prince Alexander of Battenberg

The first monarch of the Principality of Bulgaria after its liberation from ottoman rule. In 1885 he took part in the unification of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia, which prompted Serbia to declare war. Bulgaria won, thus cementing the newly enlarged Principality of Bulgaria under Alexander's rule. The 6th of september is called "Unification day" here in Bulgaria and is celebrated as one of the most important holidays.
